Development of sustainable products

In 2021, Optimar has had two main areas of focus with respect to sustainable products. Focus number one has been to improve cooperation with the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and create solutions that support fish welfare. Focus number two has been to invent efficient solutions that maintain fish welfare and at the same time deliver increased efficiency and profitability for the actors in the fishing industry.

Optimar has also established good connections with research organizations such as Nofima in Norway. This is to obtain third-party documentation that fish welfare is maintained when Optimar products are used. In 2021, the focus has been on the products Electric Stunner, Optilize, Optiflush and Stun & Bleed systems for use on farmed cod.

Our sustainability strategy

Sustainable management of the world’s fish stocks, both wild and farmed, is key to keeping a growing global population adequately fed.Optimar’s sustainability strategy shows how we are working as an organization to manage all our resources in a way that creates value not only today, but for the generations to come.

At Optimar we take our purpose seriously – fish handling with care. This is the core of what we do at Optimar and how we fulfil our company mission. We improve the sustainability of food production by enabling our customers to process fish more effectively, safely and with higher quality. At the same time it also means caring for people and planet, and creating value for the next generations. There is a growing sense of ownership at Optimar to drive this forward which enables us to continue to take big steps forward each year.

While combating climate change and protecting the environment are fundamental aspects of this, we choose to take a broader view. For us, social and economic development is equally important.

Verdiskapingskonferansen Oslo 2023

Verdiskapingskonferansen Oslo 2023

A purpose-driven and fully integrated seafood company, offering a wide range of quality products

The story of HOFSETH started in an rebuilt dairy plant in 2005, and 15 years later we are one of the largest salmon and trout processors in Europe with an annual production of 60,000- 70,000 tons.

Established: 2005

Number of employees: 500+

Segment: Fully integrated seafood company

Our core strategies

In everything we do, we focus on our three main strategies that has been with us from the start.

Local value creation

We believe that the value creation from Norway’s fish farming should go to the local communities close to the source.

Utilize the whole fish

In order to have a truly sustainable business model, we utilize the fish waste and turn it into high value marine nutrition products.

Low environmental impact

In our whole value chain, from farming to freight of the finished product, we focus on reducing the environmental impact.

Ensuring sustainable food for generations – Responsible Farming

Norway’s unique nature creates a perfect area for fish farming. After thousands of years with natural accommodation for the Atlantic salmon and trout, it is our responsibility to organize our facilities and conduct our operations in sustainable way that preserves and protects the fjord’s wildlife.

Aquaculture has a low environmental footprint

Aquaculture is a sustainable and low-impact way of producing food. Compared to beef, one kilo salmon need eight times less feed than one kilo beef, while at the same time producing ten times less carbon and using eleven times less water.

ESG reporting

We acknowledge the reality of the climate crisis and accept our responsibility to provide sustainable, healthy food for as many people around the world as possible. We see this as a duty, not an option — based as we are in a fjord environment that has abundant resources of water and renewable energy, and is ringed by protective mountains, we can make optimal use of these assets through our wellestablished value chain to provide the world with much-needed healthy nutrition.

GATH member presentation- Cflow

Cflow aims to maximize the resources we harvest from the ocean. We provide technology and solutions that enable high quality seafood, produced through fishery and aquaculture. Our automated systems take care of the fish in a secure way, ensuring that the fish maintains its quality, and that the operations are efficient.

Established: 2002

Number of employees: 117

Segment: Fish handling solutions for aquaculture and fishery

At Cflow, we believe in developing technology on nature’s terms. As we continue developing, we must be aware our responsibilities. The fish should, to the biggest extent, be able to swim in its natural habitat, thriving and growing undisturbed, with the freedom to express natural behaviour – just like the five freedoms describe. In addition, we have a responsibility to take care of the nature and environment surrounding us, and the responsibility to provide healthy, nutritious food for human consumption.

Therefore, we start the development from the perspective of the fish. The key to better fish welfare during handling is to reduce the handling time and enable the fish to stay in water for longer stretches of time. In other words, our job is to streamline the handling operations and increase capacity in a gentle and controlled way.

Our profound knowledge on biology, mechanics, and automation is transformed into precise systems that assure efficient operations. Cflow has extensive experience with using reality data for calculations, documentation, and development of new solutions. This insight results in predictable and controlled processes for you as an operator, along with the tools to make the right decisions whenever needed.

We will continue striving to make improvements for fishery and aquaculture. As part of the industry, we make it our responsibility to challenge today’s solutions and push technology forward – On nature’s terms.

GATH gjennom første driftsår!

GATH gjennom første driftsår!

Kjære medlemmer i GATH
